Deck Builder in Louisville & Surrounding KY
Deck Builder from E & J General Contracting — a family-owned crew working across Louisville, Bullitt County, and central Kentucky.
About Our Decks Work
Custom wood and composite decks built on real footings — multi-level, wraparound, screened, or simple. Built to outlast the neighbors.
We design and build custom decks across Louisville and the surrounding counties — pressure-treated, cedar, or composite (Trex, TimberTech, Azek). Every deck we build sits on properly poured footings dug below the Kentucky frost line, framed to code, and finished with hardware that won't bleed rust streaks down your boards in two years.

Our Process
Design & quote
We walk the site, measure, talk through layout and material options, and write a fixed-price quote with a 3D-ish sketch.
Permit & footings
Pull the permit, call 811, dig pier holes below frost, pour concrete footings with proper post bases.
Frame
Set posts, beams, and joists per span tables. Block, brace, and inspect before any decking goes down.
Deck & finish
Lay decking with consistent gaps, install railings and stairs, stain or seal, and walk the final inspection with you.
Equipment We Run
- Mini excavator & auger for footings
- Mitre & track saws
- Framing nailers & impact drivers
- Laser level & string lines
- Hidden-fastener tools for composite
Pricing
Pressure-treated decks in Kentucky run $35–$50 per square foot installed. Cedar runs $45–$65. Composite (Trex, TimberTech) runs $55–$85 per square foot depending on board line. A standard 16x20 PT deck typically lands $11,000–$16,000. Multi-level, screened, or roofed adds significantly. Footings, permit, and finish are always included in our number.
Decks FAQs
Pressure-treated, cedar, or composite — what should I pick?
PT is the budget-friendly workhorse and lasts 15–25 years with regular sealing. Cedar looks beautiful and ages naturally but costs more. Composite (Trex/TimberTech) is the lowest maintenance — no staining ever — but costs the most up front. We'll talk you through the math for your situation.
Do I need a permit for a deck in Louisville or Bullitt County?
Yes for any deck over 30 inches off grade or attached to the house. We pull the permit and handle the inspection. Free-standing low patios under 30 inches usually don't need one.
How long does it take to build a deck?
Most residential decks take 5–10 working days from footing pour to final railing — weather permitting. Larger multi-level or composite jobs run 2–3 weeks.
Will my deck be code-compliant for resale?
Yes. We frame to current Kentucky residential code, use proper joist hangers and ledger flashing, and meet 36-inch railing height with 4-inch baluster spacing. Inspectors sign off on what we build.
Can you tear out my old deck?
Yes. Tear-out and haul-off typically adds $1,500–$3,500 depending on size and how it was attached.
