About Our Utility Installation Work

Water lines, sewer laterals, drainage, and underground utility trenching. Buried at the right depth, bedded in the right material.

We install and repair water service lines, sewer laterals, French drains, downspout pipe, and underground electric trenches. Everything goes in below the Kentucky frost line, on a proper bed, with tracer wire where it belongs.

Who This Is For

  • Homeowners with a leaking water service line or failed sewer lateral
  • New construction needing water, sewer, electric, and gas trenches
  • Property owners adding a shop, barn, or detached structure with utilities
  • Anyone fighting a wet yard with French drains or downspout extensions

What's Included

  • 811 locates before every dig
  • Trenching to code depth (below 30-inch KY frost line for water)
  • Sand or gravel bedding under all pressure pipe
  • Tracer wire and warning tape
  • Tie-ins to meter, main, or septic per plumbing code
  • Compaction and surface restoration

Our Process

  • Locate & plan

Call 811. Confirm meter location, slope requirements for sewer, and any easements.

  • Trench

Excavate to depth and width. Watch for existing lines that didn't show on the locate.

  • Bed & lay

Sand bed, lay pipe to slope, glue or fuse joints, drop tracer wire.

  • Pressure test & cover

Test water lines at 100+ PSI, camera sewer if needed, then bed cover, backfill, compact, restore.

Equipment We Run

  • Mini excavators (best for tight trenches)
  • Trenchers
  • Vacuum excavator for utility daylighting
  • Pipe fusion gear (HDPE)
  • Pressure test rigs

Pricing

Water service line replacement (meter to house, 60–80 ft) runs $2,800–$5,500 depending on depth, bore vs. open trench, and surface restoration. Sewer lateral replacement averages $3,500–$8,500. New utility trenches for a detached structure run $15–$35 per linear foot depending on depth and bedding requirements.

Utility Installation FAQs

  • How deep does a water line need to be in Kentucky?

Minimum 30 inches below grade — that's the Kentucky frost line. We typically bury at 36 inches to be safe and to clear most landscape work.

  • Can you bore under my driveway instead of cutting it?

For most residential water and electric runs, yes — we can directional bore under driveways and sidewalks. Sewer with a slope requirement usually needs an open trench.

  • How do I know if my sewer lateral is failing?

Recurring backups, slow drains across the whole house, sinkholes near the line, or roots in cleanouts. We can run a camera before quoting a full replacement.

  • Do you handle the water department tap and meter?

We coordinate with Louisville Water and the smaller county systems. Tap fees are paid by the property owner directly to the utility, but we handle scheduling and inspection.
